Cameras, photographs paintings are  one of the ways to preserve memories of the past, from black and whites to multimillion pieces  high definition pieces of art. But even photographs given time  will degrade and fade. the pictures even will start to flake of pieces of pigments. Even today as the digital ages continues to progress and cameras become ever more sophisticated. Since features like color or definition  and depth can sometimes only be perceived in the physical world. There should be a technique that will incorporate thos data into binary data. Since like everything there  will be a time that older pictures captured by older  generation of cameras will be needed to preserve through digital means. However traditional scanners are quite big bulky and targets pictures that can only be accessed in the office. Plus there might be a point  in time that other than pictures or photographs will be scanned. And digitizing this texture takes time and cost greatly with the use of scanning technology specifically designed by the studio it uses. However not all can afford this kind of technology and may not have any alternatives until snap scans.
