Pain in Ball Of Foot

Pain in Ball Of Foot

Ball of foot pain is a common problem that occurs in the padded area of the foot, just before the toes. This area often becomes painful and inflamed due to overuse, increased pressure, injury, wearing the wrong shoes, or biomechanical problems (i.e., having flat feet). Fortunately, the most common causes of ball of foot pain can be treated using a home treatment plan for pain relief. In addition, wearing orthotics sandals and flip flops as an alternative to going barefoot helps keep the feet supported. Whether a foot condition is causing the pain—such as metatarsalgia, neuromas, sesamoiditis, or calluses and corns—the key to treatment is supporting the arch. The best flip flops and sandals have a built-in orthotic support that conforms as close as possible to the arch area. This device helps transfer pressure off the ball of the foot and redistributes the weight evenly. An orthotic is a foot-supporting device also known as a custom insole that comfortably fit into shoes. They are designed to support and improve the functioning of the feet. Foot orthotics allow the muscles, tendons and bones of the feet to function at their optimal potential for our body weight, structure, walking pattern and life styles. When appropriately prescribed and manufactured, foot orthotics can decrease pain and discomfort in the foot, ankles, knees, hips and back. They increase our stability prevent further progression of bony deformities, soft tissue pain, burning and numbness and help to improve overall quality of life in activities of daily living.
