Metatarsal Pads

Metatarsal Pads

The ankle, or talocrural region, is the region where the foot and the leg meet. The ankle incudes three joints: the ankle joint proper or talocrural joint, the subtalar joint, and the Inferior tibiofibular joint. In common usage, the term ankle refers exclusively to the ankle region. In medical terminology, "ankle" (without qualifiers) can refer broadly to the region or specifically to the talocrural joint. Silicone pad slips over your toes to comfortably cushion your bunion and forefoot. Reverses for use on right or left foot. 83% nylon/17% spandex cover.  Metatarsal pads are designed to increase the surface area of the ball of the foot, effectively decreasing focal loading on the forefoot.  The important point to make here is that metatarsal pads are not intended to be used under the met heads.  Metatarsal pads are intended to be used just proximal to the met heads.  To better understand placement, be sure to watch our video on the product pages for met pads.  These videos show the proper placement of the met pads.Patients with painful metatarsalgia may gain significant benefit from the use of a metatarsal pad as this pad will tend to offload the area of greatest pressure.
