The hussar is a bright pink, with a yellow band along the lateral line. The caudal fin is pink. It is a member of the perch family and it's flesh is firm and very good eating. The Hussar is a tropical fish and reef-dweller. It is a particularly strong swimmer and is found from the Queensland/New South Wales border, north to Rockhampton. The Hussar grows to a length of 46cm, although average fish are around 2-3 kg. Habitat: Saltwater and estuarine. Often caught near reefs, but some species more common on offshore trawling grounds.
